Palagi Nang Talo ang Ginebra

Don’t get me wrong. I’m a huge fan of the Gin Kings or the Barangay Ginebra Kings. Even at a tender age, I’ve been with my fave team’s high and low moments. I revelled at how Noli Locsin, Vince Hizon, Bal David, and the Big J himself, planned and executed the heart-stopping plays that truly made them the most admired team in the Philippine basketball history and completely cemented their legacy not only in history books but is forever etched in the heart of a true Filipino fan. I also mourned along with millions of fans in what seemed to be the end of the line for the beloved Barangay with each heart-breaking loss. Despite all of those setbacks, nothing diminished, not even a small degree of the love and admiration for the Barangay, instead, all the more that fanatics, like me, assured the team and the rest of us that no matter what, not even a coup de etat will ever change our mind in loving and supporting the Barangay.

Something very firm is binding the Barangay and each and every fan. Nobody can exactly pinpoint what but nevertheless considered the “never say die attitude.”

The Barangay now, I don’t know and I can’t explain it but something had been missing for the past few years. That spark, (I don’t mean Mark “The Spark” Caguioa), seemed to have become just a dying ember from a former blazing inferno. I’ve read a lot of articles, comments on the internet, some kwentong barbero or kwentong lasing and we all seemed to share the same sentiment. Let me just elaborate and pour my heart and thoughts on the remake of the popular Barangay song.

If we as Filipinos can rise from every misfortune, calamities, political turmoil and whatnots due to our innate fighting spirit and our love of God, I believe that the Barangay will bounce back and reclaim the lost glory that seemed to have been tarnished and denied from us for so long.

Palagi Nang Talo ang Ginebra
(To the tune of Pag Nananalo/Natatalo ang Ginebra)

Sinusundan ko ang bawat laro
Ng koponan kong laging talo
Kapag si Caguioa na ang bumibitaw
Deadma ako, hindi na sumisigaw

Ako na nga ay relihiyoso
Nananalangin sa mga santo
O San Miguel, Santa Catalina
Sana manalo naman ang Ginebra

Sa umpisa, ganado sila
Pumapasok pa ang mga tira nila
Kahit balyahin ni Beau Belga
Sa three point line ay may counted foul pa

Walang magawa ang mga kalaban
Sa lakas ng mga hiyawan
Umaasang raratsada
At mananalo ang Ginebra

Pagbigyan nyo na ako
Nasanay na kasi akong
Lumalamang sila sa unang yugto

Pagbigyan nyo na ako
Sa mga hirit kong ito
Sa second half ay maiiyak na ako

Siguro malas, siguro hindi
Parang sumpang hindi mabali
Kaninang lamang mahigit dal’wampu
Ngayon ay tambak na kami ng sampu

Nang-aalaska ang aking misis
Wag na daw ‘kong magtaka kung bakit
Ikaw ay wag na wag nang umasa
Dahil matatalo ang Ginebra

Drive ni JJ ay nasasaling
Rebound sa ilalim hindi maangkin
Fastbreak play na ay pumapalya pa
Wala ng bantay, siya na lang mag-isa

Pahirapan din sa mga free throws
Ang hirap hirap makakuha ng puntos
At sa wakas ay may pumasok
Three points ni fast and the furious

Pagbigyan nyo na ako
Ang barangay sana manalo
Paminsan-minsan lang naman ito

Pagbigyan nyo na ako
Umaasa parin akong
Sumaya lahat ang buong mundo

Fourth quarter na, may pag-asa pa
Ang Barangay ay tumatabla na
“Never say die,” yan ang sabi nila
Kami ay lalaban hanggang huling hininga

Bumabalik sa aking isip
Ang alaala ko nung grade 3
Kahit pa malakas ang Alaska
Solid na solid, barangay Ginebra

Totoo nga ang sabi ni kumander
Noong natapos na ang fourth quarter
Nakakatakot na ang umasa
Palagi nang talo ang Ginebra
